Before I tell you how these two actual clients of mine learned how to transform their lives forever by following my Training and Nutrition system, let me share some back ground about myself.

I have been exercising my entire life. I started sports at the age of 4 and have been active ever since. I was a natural athlete and quickly identified with sport and competition. I knew very early in my life that I wanted my life to be focused on athletics. Initially I had aspirations of professional sport but body building captured my attention in my late teens.

I started working out with weights when I was 13 yrs old for all the wrong reasons.

Going into high school I had a poor self image. All the guys were bigger, and it seemed like all the girls liked that. Starting with a poor self image I became obsessed with bodybuilding, gaining weight and getting bigger. Somehow I thought building a strong exterior would solve my self esteem problems. The summer before high school I began the early years of my training.

I feverishly pumped weight in my parents basement, ate as much as I could and read muscle magazines from cover to cover.

I day dreamed about being more than I was. Most of my life I suffered with the same poor self image I started with when I was 13. It wasn’t until later that I discovered that we have to make short and long term goals and make sure we re access those goals quarterly. Doing this helps us to avoid falling into ruts where we do things without even knowing why we’re doing them any more.

My early years taught me discipline, I learned about hard work and how to stay motivated. I learned how to build muscle, and burn fat. I had no idea at that time how important this experience would become to the rest of my life.

I was the provincial body building champion by the time I was 20, In the Mr. Universe at 23 and Mr. North America at 25 I just couldn’t seem to ever get big enough. I was sick…

After high school I went on to study physical education at University. I started working in the gym when I was 18 and personal training when I was 20. I tried 100′s of bodybuilding routines. I used every supplement and fat burner there was, experimenting on a successful formula. I learned the secrets of burning fat by dieting for competitions, my self and helping other competitors get into the best shape of their lives. This experience taught me how professional athletes adjust their food to achieve the leanest bodies in the world.

Obsessed with the gym and my workouts and my food I was still unhappy with my body. I had bigorexia! I worked out 2-3 hrs/day. I was young I had the time. My problem… which I didn’t figure out until later was that I still had the same goals and self image problems of a 13 year old buried in this gigantic body.

I finally realized that I was obsessed when I tore a major muscle off of my body bench pressing 400 pounds.

The injury left a twist to my body that caused pain in my upper back, lower back and hip. I couldn’t train the way I used to. I started to gain weight. I needed a new method of exercise and I needed to address my poor self image. I needed to change…

In 1997 I opened Hamilton’s first commercial personal training studio.

I got Married. I had Children. This really made my life different. I had a business and a family to juggle.

I didn’t have the time or the ability with my injuries to train like I used to. I started to gain weight.

I had to learn to condense my workouts so that I could maintain a healthy trainer image and heal my body. I needed new balanced healthy goals. I realized I wasn’t going to be a professional bodybuilder any longer. I had to overcome my obsessions with size I had from my early years. I needed new health goals. My new goals were to get lean again and healthy. I had to do it in less time so I could operate my business and still have time and energy for my family. I kept up the discipline and self motivation I learned as a bodybuilder but transferred it from competition on the stage to competing in business with my training system.

If I couldn’t stay in shape, heal my body and balance my work and family life, how could I teach anyone else to?

I condensed my program and focused on the muscles that stimulated my metabolism the most. I learned through the years that the body building body part training mentality was not the way the body really worked.

I learned through the years that the body building, body part training mentality was not the way the body really worked and not the best way for someone starting out, or returning to fitness. In fact I now believe that it is the reason for most people’s lack of success.

I realized that this was the mistake that most gym personal trainers and members were making.

I continued my education after university through books and courses. I read and studied with the same intensity of my bodybuilding days. I was shocked to find out how much misunderstanding about fitness there really was out there. Bodybuilding magazines, Big box gyms and old school trainers have contributed to most people following programs that just aren’t right for them.

It took years to study, design programs for my clients, write goals for myself and work on my own mental changes.

I learned the body functions collectively as a unit. All the muscles work together like the links in a chain. Training individual body parts to get stronger didn’t really make sense anymore. The body will only be as strong as the weakest link. I learned how much of the things we think and say affect our image of our self, our energy and the things that are happening in our lives.

I created my core training philosophy from what I learned. I started to train my body to function heal and burn fat with the little time I had. I combined my new physical program with my nutritional system and new mental discipline.

I learned from injuring myself that the routine must have balance. The body will only be as strong as the weakest link.

I learned how much the things we think and say affect our image of our self, our energy and the things that are happening in our lives. I worked on my self talk and incorporated meditation into my life. I created my core training philosophy from what I learned. I started to train my body to function, heal and burn fat with the little time I had. I combined my new physical program with my nutritional system and new mental discipline.

he more I trained this way and worked on my thoughts the stronger and leaner my body became with a lot less time. My body returned to the low fat of my competitive days. With my new core strength I noticed I was now able to do things I could never do before. My pain disappeared, my flexibility increased, I had more energy, I was able to maintain a leaner body with less time in the gym and I started to feel better.

My business started to take off. I began seeing up to 50 people a day and became the most sought after personal trainer in the Hamilton-Burlington region.

I worked on my program daily with hundreds of clients who reported remarkable changes in short periods of time. Finally, a way to get in and out of the gym quickly, strengthen the body, reduce the fat, lose inches, heal the pain, and get my cardio all rolled into a 30 minute workout.

The Hi End System Was Born!

Now my bodyweight sits comfortably 40 pounds less then when I was competing as a bodybuilder. People compliment me all the time and finally I am comfortable in my own skin.

I started to attract clients from gyms who shared stories about gym trainers with me. They told me they love my program because it is continuous movement for 30 minutes. They can get in and get out quickly. My clients say they prefer the 30 minute session as they don’t waste time talking. They shared their experiences with trainers that spent their sessions trying to be therapists or telling the clients their life stories. My clients told me they didn’t want to get into the habit of going to the gym to socialize. They come here for hard work and results!

My clients have told me that they love the way our program is continuously changing so they never get bored of their workouts. I explained to them that by making changes to the program frequently their body never gets used to the training stimulus so we don’t stop making progress.

I learned early in my personal training career working for the big gyms that the management never really cared about the clients or about getting results. All they cared about was the numbers.

I vowed to my self when I opened my first studio to make the clients and their results my main priority.

Although we offer Bootcamp classes we differ from other studio’s in that we don’t just stick clients into bootcamp. Our bootcamp classes are extremely high-intensity. They are designed for our fit test clients to continue moving forward. The movements are advanced and require a certain level of skill and strength. We like to prepare all our clients with some private training first. This way in a private environment you can learn the basic movements and develop your core strength before we throw you into a high intensity class. Our experience has been that throwing a client into bootcamp too fast means more chance of injury and less chance of success.

I learned from my own experience that powders, pills and potions aren’t the solution to your weight loss goals. The solution really meant adopting a lifestyle that was maintainable, healthy and fun. If the body is in balance it doesn’t really store fat.

That body balance comes from balancing your intake of food with your output of activity. I designed our nutritional system to take into account people’s individual food preferences and personal energy requirements when organizing their meal plans.

What to expect At Hi-End Fitness

Our Training system focus’s on the core. The core muscles include the abdominals, obliques, inner thighs, hamstrings, low back, erectors, traps and rhomboids. These muscles are the anchor muscles of your body! They are responsible for your balance, co-ordination and agility. Your core muscles protect and stabilize your spine so your head, neck and limbs can move freely. Adding a core strengthening program to your life will dramatically improve every aspect of your life.

Weekly Personal Training Sessions – You’ll receive trainer-supervised workouts on a bi- weekly basis that’ll constantly drive you towards your ideal body as FAST as possible. We offer 30 minute private or couple sessions and 60 minute group or bootcamp style classes to get the job done.Your trainer will guide you through a workout designed to stimulate every muscle of your body.

Motivation – Your trainer will motivate you every single time you come in for a workout so reaching your fitness goals will be EASY. We have learned how difficult it is for people to stay motivated all the time to their exercise program.

Guidance- During your workouts we’ll practically guide you by the hand through the entire process. All you need to do is show up we’ve already done all the planning and organizing to make sure you get the best fat melting workout! Our program is already tried and proven…

Instruction – We will show you EXACTLY how to do every exercise SAFE and correctly. You will learn how to do things properly to Burn fat quickly without hurting yourself. Healing and strengthening yourself the entire time.

We start everyone off with and initial assessment to evaluate your current condition. Depending on your current level of fitness we will prescribe our recommendation of private training sessions. This is where we like to do the bulk of our instruction. Our flag ship 30 minute training system gives us an opportunity to teach you our most basic movements and strengthen your core.

After learning the basics and developing that initial core strength you can choose to continue working with in our private or couple program or move into our group classes or bootcamp format.

Bootcamp classes are a high-intensity hour filled with advanced core strengthening techniques combined with traditional strength training, organized in an interval training style and including flexibility.

Bootcamp is fun and challenging. It’s a fantastic way to Burn fat, lose inches, or maintain your weight-loss for a reasonable price and a lot of fun. Group classes make working with professional trainers affordable.

Support – We will give you mental, physical and emotional support which is CRUCIAL in making consistent progress. Most people quit their exercise programs on their own in the first 6 weeks. Our job description includes making sure you stick to it.

Accountability – We have learned that showing up is half the battle. It’s easy to skip your workout when it’s not scheduled in your day timer. Making an appointment with a trainer means someone is there waiting for you to show up!

Nutritional Instruction- We can take a look at what you’re eating and determine what you should be eating for your personal metabolic rate. We can provide you with a week plan, 30 day plan or 90 day plan filled with hundreds of recipes for you.

We are not here to hold you captive for an hour while we go on and on about our personal lives. We recognize that the time you spend with us is your time!

We are not going to put you on some piece of cardio equipment for an hour and call it a workout – We will give you recommendations for cardio to do between visits with us but that will be your responsibility. You do have to do something’s independently. If you’re having troubles with this then let us know and we’ll tell you what we can do…

We are not the absolute lowest priced service around although we are not the highest either. We provide a quality service for a reasonable rate.
